Just as we have different systems in our physical body, some of our systems are unseen to the naked eyes. We are electromagnetic beings and have energy that is interwoven within every cell, system and organ in our body and that which radiates around us as our aura or energetic body.
Our chakra system is our energetic system, the origins believed to be dated back as far as the Vedas from 1,500-1,000 BC.
“Chakra” means spinning wheel and there are seven main spinning wheels or focal points of energy in our body along our spine with each one influencing all aspects of our lives – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Having balanced chakras allow energy to flow for optimal wellbeing whereas imbalances can cause issues related to that chakra such as poor digestion, anxiety, headaches, lack of confidence, self-esteem issues and mental fog to name a few.
There are a variety of ways to help move energy within these chakras including specific yoga poses that work on meridians, resonant sounds, crystals, aromatherapy and affirmations. Natalie Southgate from Chakradance™ says –
